Hoyland's 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year: Desiree Lewis
I am extremely honored and excited to receive the 2014-15 Teacher of the Year Award at Hoyland Elementary School. This is the 2nd time that I have been blessed to receive this recognition. I previously received this high honor for the 2009-10 school year. This is my 15th year working in Spring ISD and my 6th year at Hoyland. I am a c/o 1996 Westfield High School graduate and a 2002 University of Houston-Downtown graduate. I entered the world of education as a substitute teacher at Thompson Elementary school and was later offered a paraprofessional position in the Special Education department while finishing my degree. I am happily married to my high-school sweetheart and the proud mother of 3. My true passion is working with children with Special Needs. It is the most gratifying experience to witness the struggles and successes of these children daily. I am dedicated to the students, parents, and staff that I serve.
Hoyland's 2014-2015 Rookie of the Year: Anastacia Mackey
Being named Rookie Teacher of the Year is a tremendous honor. I am so Blessed to arrive at work everyday knowing that I am molding the future of our society. Everyday is a challenge and rewarding experience, yet I enjoy facing the day head on. This job was not done alone. The fantastic support, time and diligence of the entire 5th grade team and administration is unlike anything I have ever experienced in my career. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have my first year as an educator at a wonderful school such as Hoyland Elementary. I am overjoyed about the future ahead.
iMOM Morning is a simple idea with a profound impact. It's a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school where mothers and their children meet with other moms and kids in the school gym. During this time, they discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and are equipped with resources to strengthen their relationship.
